Godolphin homebred Good Cheer kept her record intact with another commanding performance in Saturday's $400,000 Golden Rod S. (G2) at Churchill Downs.
The Eddie Woods training program grad has won all four of her starts by a combined 32 lengths, a streak that began in early August in a maiden special weight race at Horseshoe Indianapolis. She then added an allowance win Sept. 28 and Churchill Downs, then came back to take the Oct. 27 Rags to Riches S. at Churchill before her score over the weekend.
In the Golden Rod, Good Cheer was under a snug hold through the first half-mile, sitting in fifth about four lengths off the leaders. Entering the far turn, she went three wide and passed horses until taking command turning for home. She bounded clear in the lane to win by 2 ½-lengths in 1:43.26 on a fast track.
“Her record really speaks for itself and the style in which she’s won all of those races has been very impressive,” trainer Brad Cox said. “She is another testament to Godolphin’s program. She’s handled everything we’ve done with her, so far, extremely well and I think we haven’t seen her best yet.”
Good Cheer has earned $457,630. A daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, Good Cheer is out of multiple Grade 1 winner Wedding Toast.
