Following up on his dazzling maiden debut win on May 29, Eddie Woods training grad Cazadero turned in another eye-catching performance in Saturday's $100,000 Bashford Manor S. (G3) at Churchill Downs, winning as he pleased by 4 3/4-lengths.
Racing for his breeder Stonestreet Stables, the Steve Asmussen trainer was an 8 3/4-length winner and named a TDN Rising Star in his first start, and is now a perfect 2-for-2 and has earned $106,160.
After stalking the pace for a half-mile, Cazadero took command in upper stretch, then drew off to win with authority, covering the six furlongs on a fast main track in a swift 1:09.73.
“He is an incredibly nice horse. We sat in a really good spot today and was very comfortable. He kept finding his stride throughout the stretch,” said winning rider Ricardo Santana, Jr.
Cazadero is likely to make his next start at the Saratoga meet in the historic track's lucrative 2-year-old stakes program.
