Eddie Woods Stables graduate Showcase put on quite a display in Saturday's $200,000 Saratoga Special (G2), bursting to the lead in the final furlong to win going away.

The 2-year-old colt, who was named a TDN Rising Star following his 7 ½-length debut win July 6 at Aqueduct, is owned by Harrell Ventures, LLC.

Showcase broke well enough to settle nicely in fifth for the backstretch run, about four lengths off the pace set by First Resort. Around the turn Showcase edged closer along the rail to get within two lengths of the lead at the top of the stretch. He was boxed in behind the leader until muscling his way to the outside just inside the final furlong, when he lengthened stride and bound away to win by 3 ¼-lengths in 1:16.40 for the 6 ½-furlongs on a fast track.

"I thought we were getting a great trip, until then it looked like we just needed to get lucky to find a place to go," winning trainer Todd Pletcher said. "I was watching live and then turning to the head-on monitor, and I was like, 'Man, I don't know where he is going to find a seam here,' but fortunately it kind of opened up and he was game to punch his way through there and finish up well."

Pletcher said he may wait until the Champagne S. (G1) or the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland for Showcase’s next start.

With the victory, Showcase has won his two races by a combined 10 ¾-lengths and earned $159,500.

The winner was bred by WinStar Farm and is out of the Kentucky Juvenile S. winner Buy Sell Hold, who is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Volatile.
