Prevalence rolled by Nashville and the top of the stretch then held off a host of challengers to win the $300,000 Commonwealth S. (G3) on a cold Saturday afternoon at Keeneland.

It was the first graded stakes win for the Eddie Woods training grad, a 4-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro owned by his breeder Godolphin and trained by Brendan Walsh.

Prevalence was making his first graded start since last year’s Pat Day Mile (G3), and came into Saturday's race with a very sharp March 5 allowance score at Gulfstream Park. Nashville was quickest out of the gate, with Prevalence only a length behind in third. Fast fractions of :22 flat and :44.61 took their toll on Nashville, and Prevalence took over under the urging of Tyler Gaffalione. Long Range Toddy was within a length with a furlong to run, but Prevalence put him away, winning by 2 ¼-lengths in 1:22.47 for the seven panels on a sealed track.

“I wasn't sure we'd get that close to [Nashville],” Walsh said. “The plan was to let [Prevalence] work his way into the race. They were going quick, but he looked comfortable the whole time. Tyler said he was just cruising along for him.”

“He's just a very smart horse,” Gaffalione added. “He does everything so easily. The first thing Brendan said was, 'Man, they went quick, but it looked like he was doing it well within himself,' and he really was. He has a high cruising speed, and he's a very intelligent horse. I had plenty left.”

Prevalence has won four of his seven starts and earned $288,225.
