Mucho Unusual got her second graded stakes win in her last three starts in the Dec. 27 Robert J. Frankel S. (G3), defeating Never Be Enough (GB) in the 1 1/8-mile turf contest for fillies and mares.
The Eddie Woods training grad has now won three graded stakes and four black type races overall, and has earned $762,715 for her owner/breeder George Krikorian.
Never far from the lead, Mucho Unusual chased She's Our Charm and Miss Teheran through six furlongs in 1:11.70. Making a three-wide move for the lead on the final turn, Mucho Unusual took the lead in upper stretch and outran the runner-up to the wire to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:46.94 on the firm turf.
“We had an outside draw and that was a little bit of a concern,” said winning trainer Tim Yakteen. “There was one lone speed in the race. She is such a dream to train, so easy, so straightforward, she makes my job easy. She's my queen. We don't have a big stable but she's our queen.”
Mucho Unusual's record now stands at 6-3-4 from 18 starts.
