Eddie Woods training grad picked the perfect time to win her first graded stakes race in Saturday's $300,000 Rodeo Drive S. (G1) at Santa Anita Park, as the race also gave the winner an all-expenses paid berth into the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) in early November at Keeneland.
The George Krikorian homebred led nearly all the way in the 1 1/4-mile trip, taking over the top spot in the first quarter-mile and never relinquishing the lead from there. Tonahutu (IRE) made a run at her with a half-mile to go, and Maxim Rate closed late, but could get no closer than 1 1/4-lengths on the wire.
The final time was 2:00.19 on the firm turf.
Mucho Unusual had placed in five graded stakes before Saturday's breakthrough win. She is now 5-3-4 in 16 starts and has earned $702,715.
A 4-year-old daughter of Mucho Macho Man, the winner is out of Not Unusual, also the dam of graded stakes winner Big Score.
