Mansetti drew off at the top of the Woodbine stretch on his way to victory in the $150,000 Clarendon S. on Nov. 24 to give the Eddie Woods training grad his first stakes win.
The 2-year-old son of Collected is trained by Kevin Attard for Al and Bill Ulweling, who purchased the colt for $40,000 out of the 2024 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April.
A debut winner on Sept. 26, Mansetti was seeking to bounce back after finishing sixth in the Display S. last month. Running with blinkers for the first time, Mansetti sped to the front right away, dueling with Dark Screen through a quick first quarter-mile in :22.37. Dark Screen began to fade on the turn, leaving Mansetti alone on the lead turning for home. He kicked on nicely and held off Cal Me Sue to win by 1 ¼-lengths in 1:10.81 for the six furlongs on the synthetic surface.
“I knew with the blinkers he’d be a little bit speedier today,” said Attard. “I was concerned that, on paper, there looked like some other speed, and when the one horse [Dark Screen] shot up there, and the two of them were kind of throwing it down and opening up on the field, you always get concerned. But the horse was good enough to hang on and kind of repel the challenges, and I thought Leo [Salles] just rode a smart race.”
Mansetti has now earned $104,022 in his three starts.
The winner was bred in Canada by Jungle Racing LLC and is a half-brother to two-time stake winner Straight Up G.
