Lake Avenue made a swift early move for the lead and never looked back as the 2-year-old filly took the $250,000 Demoiselle S. (G2) by four lengths on Dec. 7 at Aqueduct for her first stakes win.
The Eddie Woods training grad is a Godolphin Stables homebred trained by Bill Mott. After finishing second in her Oct. 6 debut, she romped by 12 3/4-lengths in a Nov. 14 maiden race at Aqueduct. Saturday's big win upped her earnings to $191,000.
Jockey Junior Alvarado hustled the chestnut filly out of the gate from his outside post in the field of 10 to seize command in the first furlong. From there, he was able to slow down the pace to :50.76 for the half and 1:15.93 for six furlongs. Madean made things interesting briefly in upper stretch, but Lake Avenue quickly dispatched her to win decisively in what was her final start of 2019.
“She'll go to Florida from here,” trainer Bill Mott said, in preparation for her 2020 campaign. “We haven't talked to the ownership group yet, but I'd say she'd go to Payson Park and have a working vacation from there. There's no need to stop on her completely. But she'll get a little bit of a break, she's had three races (in a relatively short time) now.”
Lake Avenue is a daughter of Tapit out of the multiple Grade 1 winner Seventh Street, who herself is a half- sister to Grade 1 winner Reynaldothewizard.
