Fluffy Socks graduated to the ranks of graded stakes winner on Nov. 28 when the 3-year-old Eddie Woods training grad won the Jimmy Durante S. (G3) in her graded debut at Del Mar.
Winner of the $150,000 Selima S. at Pimlico in October and beaten just a nose in the Chelsey Flower S. on Nov. 1, Fluffy Socks is now 3-1-0 in five starts and has earned $226,800 for her owner/breeder Head of Plains Partners.
As she did in her prior outings, Fluffy Socks settled near the back of the field early on, with Plum Sexy leading the 10 2-year-old filly through fractions of :47 flat and 1:11.69. At the head of the stretch, Irad Oritz, Jr., on Fluffy Socks, had no choice but to go six-wide for running room. In full flight, she roared past the field to win by a half-length over Javanica in 1:35.35 on the firm turf.
"No special instructions for me," Ortiz said. "(Trainer Chad Brown) just said, 'Ride her like you did before (in the Chelsey Flower).' She felt like a winner all the way around. We had some traffic on the turn (for home), but I got through and got her to where I wanted to be. She's a nice filly. Big kick."
Fluffy Socks was bred in Kentucky and is a daughter of the British stallion Slumber out of Breakfast Time.
