Fluffy Socks was the first of what would be two Eddie Woods training grads to win a stakes race on the Preakness (G1) undercard when the 6-year-old mare dominated the competition in the Gallorette S. (G3) May 18 at Pimlico.

A short time later, fellow Woods training grad Fulmineo took the James W. Murphy S. over the same turf course.

Fluffy Socks was seeking her first victory since taking the 2023 Distaff Turf Mile (G2) at Churchill Downs, and the Chad Brown trainee did not disappoint. In hand while tracking the pace for five furlongs, she ranged up outside the pacesetters with just over a quarter-mile to run, then unleashed a powerful kick and ran away from the field, winning by 7 ¾-lengths on the soft turf.

“I feel now it’s time to step back up into a bigger race,” said Brown. “She has been close in some very big races. She has been consistent, I will give her that. For a horse to have wins in our barn from ages two to six, is pretty impressive.”

Fluffy Socks, a Head of Plains Partners homebred has won or placed in 17 stakes over her remarkable career, including wins in the Sands Point S. (G2), Jimmy Durante S. (G3) and Selima S. Her earnings now stand at $1,263,580.
