Fancy Dress Party remained perfect in four starts with a very game effort in defeating Mother Mother in Sunday's Beaumont S. (G3) at Keeneland.
The Eddie Woods training grad broke her maiden at Keeneland and won an allowance at Churchill Downs last fall before taking the Glitter Woman S. at Gulfstream Park in January. Sunday's victory was her first in a graded stakes and upped her earnings to $222,405 for owner LNJ Foxwoods.
After breaking alertly, Fancy Dress Party set the pace over the very sloppy going in the about seven furlong race. Never more than a length in front at any point, she came under very heavy pressure from Mother Mother entering the stretch, but despite repeated attempts, never let her foe by to win by a head in 1:28.18.
“I thought number two [Mother Mother] was the speed,” jockey Gabriel Saez said. “But [Fancy Dress Party] broke so clean and so well, we stayed there [on the lead] and we took it. She was very comfortable. I felt like I had a lot of horse, and when we got to the stretch, she just kept going.”
By Munnings out of The Schvagen, Fancy Dress Party is a full sister to stakes winner Will Munnings and comes from the same family as the top-class female sprinter Meafara.
