Eddie Woods training grad Decorated Invader got his second graded stakes win on June 20 at Belmont Park with a commanding 4 3/4-length victory in the $150,000 Pennine Ridge S. (G2T).
Sent away as the odds-on favorite in the one-mile Pennine Ridge, Decorated Invader got a very patient ride from Joel Rosario. Under a snug hold along the rail for the first five furlongs, he moved up the inside to challenge pacesetter Proven Strategies for the lead at the top of the stretch. The two match strides briefly, but Decorated Invader asserted himself and drew away effortlessly, winning as he pleased in 1:33.66 on the firm turf.
"I've always liked him since day one and I think he's been a tremendous horse since the beginning," said trainer Christophe Clement. "He's been a top-class horse, even last year. He was very unlucky in the Breeders' Cup. He won a Grade I in Canada. He won at Gulfstream this year. He won one today and I think he's good enough to do a mile, a mile and a quarter.”
A winner of the Summer S. (G1) at Woodbine last September, the 3-year-old was a hard-luck fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). He returned to action in March at Gulfstream Park, winning the Cutler Bay S. With Saturday's win, he is now 4-1-0 in six starts and has earned $370,535 for West Point Thoroughbreds, William Freeman, William Sandbrook and C. Manning.
