Citizen Bull, National Treasure earn Eclipse honors

Eddie Woods Training Program grads Citizen Bull and National Treasure both earned 2024 championship honors at the Eclipse Awards program held Jan. 23 at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.

The two colts are the sixth and seventh Woods grads to be named champions, joining Big Brown, Left Bank, Lady Eli, Midnight Lute and Spring in the Air.

Citizen Bull was named champion 2-year-old male following a campaign that included victories in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and American Pharoah S. (G1). A son of leading sire Into Mischief, Citizen Bull is trained by Bob Baffert for SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Stonestreet Stables LLC, Dianne Bashor, Determined Stables, Robert E. Masterson, Tom J. Ryan, Waves Edge Capital LLC & Catherine Donovan, who purchased him for $675,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Bred in Kentucky by Robert and Lawana Low, Citizen Bull earned $1,301,000 in his championship season. He is reported to be targeting Santa Anita's Robert B. Lewis S. (G3) Feb. 1 for his sophomore debut.

National Treasure, also trained by Baffert, was named champion older dirt male off wins in the Metropolitan H. (G1), Pegasus World Cup (G1) and California Crown (G1).

National Treasure is owned by SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Robert E Masterson, Stonestreet Stables LLC, Jay A Schoenfarber, Waves Edge Capital LLC & Catherine Donovan and was bred by Peter Blum Thoroughbreds LLC.

National Treasure was retired at the end of 2024 and is standing this year at Spendthrift Farm for a fee of $40,000 S&N.
