Cambier Parc, winner of the Herecomesthebride S. (G3) in March, powered past her highly regarded stablemate Newspaperofrecord (IRE) in deep stretch to pull off the upset in the $200,000 Wonder Again S. (G3) on June 6 at Belmont Park.
A $1.25 million auction buy as a yearling at Keeneland, the Eddie Woods training grad has won three of her five starts for OXO Equine LLC and trainer Chad Brown, and upped her bankroll to $242,460.
With Newspaperofrecord loping along on the lead through moderate fractions of :48.58 for the half and 1:12.48 for six furlongs, it looked like the big favorite was home free at the top of the stretch, but Cambier Parc swiftly cut into the lead in the final furlong, rolling by to win by 1 1/4-lengths in 1:46.34 for the nine furlongs on the firm turf.
“I'm not surprised Cambier Parc ran this well,” Brown said. “That's why we had her in the race. She's a much better horse on firm ground. She has the bloodlines to do it. Her mother was second in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. As you saw today, she's an up-and-comer in this division.”
Cambier Parc, by Medaglia d'Oro, is out of three-time Canadian champion Sealy Hill, also the dam of graded stakes winners Hilaby (also a champion in Canada), Belle Hill and Gale Force.
