Eddie Woods training program grad Aristella earned her first stakes win Saturday at Woodbine in the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth S., coming from last in the first quarter-mile to win the 1 1/16-mile race by a half-length over Ready for Candy.

After breaking from post 10, Aristella was at the back of the field around the first turn. Jockey Patrick Husbands deftly advanced her position down the backstretch while out in the middle of the racetrack and was in fourth entering the final turn. Entering the stretch, she was in hot pursuit of Ready for Candy and wore her down to get the win.

“She was actually the only filly in the whole race that has won two turns already,” said trainer Rachel Halden. “So, I mean, that was encouraging. And, you know, everybody else was coming off sprints. She was doing well. The last race, it actually was quite a solid effort in a very tough graded stakes. We felt very good about everything coming into it today.”

Trained by Halden for Flying Zee Racing Stables LLC, Aristella is 2-0-0 in five starts and has earned $149,316. The 2-year-old filly was bred in Ontario by Peter Berglar Racing Interests, LLC and Anderson Farm.
