The Eddie Woods training program got its newest stakes winner on Oct. 19 when the 2-year-old colt Valuation Metric roared through the stretch to win the $150,000 Awad S. at Aqueduct in what was a maiden-breaking victory.
The dark bay son of Munnings broke on top in the 1 1/16-mile turf affair, then settled back off the early pace. He was under a snug hold for the first half of the race before beginning to gain ground going into the far turn. Valuation Metric still had just one horse beat turning for home, but after swinging well out into the track, came flying to take over inside the final sixteenth. After a spirited duel, he prevailed by a head over Tiz Dashing
"He has the makings of a potentially really nice 3-year-old and with added distance as well,” said winning trainer Chad Brown. “I'll talk to Seth [Klarman, owner] about it, but in all likelihood this horse could end up in Florida sooner than later pointing to some higher-level spots next spring."
Valuation Metric, a $185,000 buy at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale, is 1-1-0 in three starts and has earned $106,500. He was bred in Kentucky by Sandra Sexton.
